In their juvenile stage, they thrive in warm, shallow environments, and even as adults, they require convenient access to the water’s surface due to their limited swimming capabilities. While they are relatively resilient, all turtles necessitate high water quality; thus, a small internal filter positioned on its side can adequately filter water for hatchlings. Larger turtles may require more comprehensive filtration systems, but it is crucial to prevent excessive water movement, as these creatures are slow swimmers. Regular partial water changes are vital for managing waste levels and controlling algae growth. Although Musk Turtles do not bask as frequently as many other turtle species, they still need a dry area to haul out.
