BUTTERFLY FISH 7-8CM The African Butterfly Fish, with its unique appearance, thrives in the tranquil waters of creeks, swamps, and slow rivers, typically just below the surface. Due to their impressive jumping ability, it’s crucial to have secure covers on the aquarium to prevent escapes. In their natural habitat, they feast on small fish, crustaceans, aquatic larvae, and even insects, which explains their surface-dwelling behavior. When setting up an aquarium, it’s advisable to leave about 15 cm (6 inches) of space from the top to accommodate their jumping. The tank should feature plenty of aquatic plants while maintaining an open area for resting near the surface. Soft lighting and dark decorations create a suitable environment, and the tank’s length and width are more important than height to maximize surface area. Installing a blue moonlight can enhance viewing during their active dusk and dawn periods. While multiple African Butterfly Fish can coexist in a spacious tank, careful selection of tankmates is essential, as their long fins may attract nibbles from other fish. Peaceful bottom-dwellers like Corydoras catfish often make good companions, and maintaining excellent water quality is vital for their well-being.
